Coming Soon: A New Name and Website Design

TruColor logo

Hello all – I realize that it has been a LONG time since I posted any kind of blog post or article on this site…I’m not much of a writer to be honest, but there have been a number of things I have been working on behind the scenes.

First of all, there are still a number of projects going on somewhat simultaneously:

  • NFL/APFA Updates: I have been going through the wonderful work put out by my friends at The Gridiron Uniforms Database (gridiron-uniforms.com) to match up my color estimates with the painstaking research that they have been providing. These guys have done an outstanding job; I hope everyone appreciates the commitment and level of detail they have been providing for all of us fans. I hope to finish up my updates in the next week or so.
  • General database cleanup and conversion: There are always a lot of changes I am making to my databases and tweaking here and there; ColorWerx is essentially contained within 3 primary databases – Color Values, Pro Franchises and College Athletics, along with a secondary Venues database (I track all stadium, ballpark, and arena info as well), and a color matching utility. Not only is this a bit of work to maintain, but I am also planning the eventual conversion of the data from Microsoft Access to SQL Server. I really should have made this move years ago, but it’s going to be a big undertaking. I’ll need to rewrite a lot of code (convert a lot of it from VB to stored procedures, triggers, functions, etc.), but it will be well worth it in the end.
  • College Colors & Nicknames: I am still making some progress, but has been put on the back-burner a bit. Once I have some of these other projects completed, I will get back on this.

And then, there is the little matter of my rebranding effort. To be honest, I have never really liked the ‘ColorWerx’ name. I came up with it once I decided to abandon the ‘Society for Sports Uniforms’ idea, and just focus on color in sports, but it hasn’t really felt right to me. I have decided on a new name – one that my wife came up with – and will be unveiling it soon. I think it’s a better name and it seems so obvious, that I wonder why I didn’t jump on it in the first place. I’ve created a new logo for the new rebrand, but in reality, it looks a whole lot like the current one (!). I think it works, but am open to suggestions. New URL as well; however, colorwerx.net will continue to point to the new one for a while.

I am also going to tweak the site a bit too – essentially just replacing the current WordPress theme with a new one – but I think/hope that it will refresh the brand a little bit.

Stay tuned for the announcement; I will be unveiling a new Facebook group for the site, along with some other social media enhancements.
