Introducing…TruColor.net!

As you’ve probably heard by now, I have changed the name of this site from ColorWerx.net to TruColor.net. This change has been in the works for a while now; I had previous attempted to obtain a trademark on ‘ColorWerx’, but was denied due to a number of other held trademarks that seemed to conflict. Not only that, but there is a relatively new branding company in the New York City area that is also using ‘ColorWerx’, and we’ve been running into some confusion between us – primarily on Twitter and Instagram.

After trying and trying to come up with a new brand (I really wanted TriTone, but it just didn’t work, and could have caused issues with Pantone), my wife Amy suggested TruColor, and we both felt that it works on a number of different levels. My historical color research is to try find and catalogue all “true” color values for every team and school, and my ‘Pantone Digital Standards’ projects are intended to display the “true” colors as well. The biggest downside (as I mentioned on Twitter), is that I now have Cyndi Lauper permanently stuck inside my head.

You will also notice a new look-and-feel for the site; in this day-and-age, you can’t stay stagnant – you have to keep refreshing the user experience. I hope I have done that with the site, but you’ll also notice that the new logo is essentially the old one with ‘TruColor’ replacing ‘ColorWerx’ (you can tell I’m not really a logo designer). Oh – and the colors changed too…I’ve replaced the pinkish-red with a more standard Red. I also decided to name all of the colors after their corresponding United States Football League equivalents (I loved that league!). Here’s the official palette:

Probably the biggest change (so far) to the site is the expansion of the menu system at the top. For the Pro Franchise Team Colors section, I have now added all completed league projects so they are accessible from the menus…without having to click on a specific sport page to locate them. However, the individual sport pages are still available if need be. Not sure if I will do the same for the College Colors & Nicknames section – there are such a large number of conferences per division, it could make the menus quite unwieldy.

There are still a number of issues with the new site I need to clean up, but I thought since the majority of work had been completed, I’d open it up and continue while you all get a feel for everything and let me know what you like, don’t like, and if you find any issues I need to address.

As well as being the founder of TruColor (formerly ColorWerx and The Society for Sports Uniforms Research), I am also a database developer and run a software development and consulting business with my wife Amy. The company is called Ethx. I have been interested in logos and uniforms since the early '70s, and am especially interested in team colors, including color science. I have also been a professional musician for 40+ years as well, and received a Bachelor's degree in Music (jazz studies - performance and arranging emphasis) from North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas) in 1985.
