It’s Only a Flesh Wound…

So…as some of you know, I have stated (on Twitter anyway) that I have been dealing with a number computer-related issues for the past few months. Well, those issues seem to be coming to a head now, and as of this morning, I think my trusty late-2013 iMac might be dead. Or mostly dead.

I use my computer for both Mac-type tasks, but also run Windows 10 in a VM (using Parallels) for the database work. Up until the last couple of months, this setup had served me very well. I can live in both (OS) worlds, and take advantage of the benefits of what each operating system has to offer.

We’re still trying to get to the bottom of exactly what the issues are – both Disk Utility and Apple Diagnostics stated that there were no hardware issues present – but something major is happening, and my machine won’t even boot up now. I do have a Time Machine backup that is (apparently) in good condition, so there’s that. (Note: all of my 400+ GBs of vector graphics are in Dropbox, so they’re all safe.)

I think I’m going to have to bite it and get a new Mac – I actually prefer the desktop setup now, since I mostly work from home, and I love the big 27″ screen. Purchasing a MacBook Pro would be nice too, but you’re paying a lot more for equal specs, and then I’d still need a dock and an external monitor in order to get the same (or similar) experience that I get from an iMac. At least my older iPad and old iPhone are still functional at this point.

Anyway, updates will be on hold until I can get back on my feet so-to-speak. I had been working on replacing all of the logos/banners at the tops of each of the Team Colors and College Athletics pages…Wordpress clips off the tops and bottoms of the “Featured Images” I place there, and some of these really display badly. (See the Horizon League page if you don’t believe me.) All of the pro leagues have been completed for now; I was just beginning to undertake the NCAA Division I pages.

I will continue to update as there is news to report.
