DC Comics 1982 Color Palette

DC logo

In 1982, DC Comics produced a palette of their primary colors used in their publications. The image/scan taken from this publication has been making the rounds for a number of years now and I thought I would provide the colors using the current PANTONE® Color Bridge standards for digital and print.

One interesting note: PANTONE® 833 C was designated as one of the colors. This color is part of a subset of discontinued Neon (formerly called Day-Glo™) colors that Pantone retired in 1987. I do not have digital color data for that particular color, due to the fact that Pantone never provided it. However, I have found a 1986 Pantone color guide that contains this color, and the formula ink mix was defined as 50% PANTONE 805 plus 50% PANTONE Warm Red. For representation, I have used the supplied CMYK breakdown to represent this color.

TruColor
As well as being the founder of TruColor (formerly ColorWerx and The Society for Sports Uniforms Research), I am also a database developer and run a software development and consulting business with my wife Amy. The company is called Ethx. I have been interested in logos and uniforms since the early '70s, and am especially interested in team colors, including color science. I have also been a professional musician for 40+ years as well, and received a Bachelor's degree in Music (jazz studies - performance and arranging emphasis) from North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas) in 1985.
