I rarely seem to ever find the time to post, but I’d like to change that. Most of you who have used this site on a regular basis have more than likely noticed a number of changes and additions to the Professional Team Colors and College Athletics sections, and one very significant inclusion: the display of actual Pantone values, along with their corresponding CMYK values.
The rationale for this change in my personal policy are many, but one of the main reasons has to to do with competition. There are a number of competing sites out there now (a couple of them have far superior SEO than this site admittedly), and even though I feel that I have established myself well in the sports design community – I still seem to struggle to keep relevant.
Here is a list of some of the changes I have made in the past few months:
- Added Pantone values to all color swatches
- Added CMYK values to all color swatches
- Have updated all of the banner images used in the headers for the professional leagues, and college conferences
- Updated a number of colleges who have changed conferences in the past year; there are still additional changes to be made
- Made a change to how the pro franchises are displayed; now “active” franchises are listed first, with “historical” franchises listed after
- Added an icon to indicate any color palettes that are new for the current season/college year
- Removed an outdated “last updated’ plugin (was throwing an error on each page)
- Updated the PHP version on the site
- Performed a number of upgrades and changes to the backend of the site
It’s been moving very slowly, but I have been continuing my research on the College Athletics section. I am now working on the USCAA schools; some of these smaller colleges do not provide much in the way of color information, so I end up having to make educated guesses on their official colors.
I also want to point out – ALL colors are CONFIRMED, unless indicated by asterisks (*) preceding the Pantone, Hex, RGB and CMYK information. Any estimates I make are done with the assistance of a color matching app I created that can take a logo’s RGB values and match against the extensive Color Values database I have been maintaining for over 20 years. (Over 31K color values, with historical RGB and CMYK information!)
I can’t make any promises, but I will try to keep posting more in order to keep everyone up-to-date as to what additional progress is being made.
